6th Graders build skin-on-frame canoes in Cowboy Bell

6th Graders build skin-on-frame canoes in Cowboy Bell

Sixth-grade students have had the opportunity to participate in the Urban Wilderness Program’s Boatbuilding experience, working together to build their own skin-on-frame canoes. Throughout the project, students have practiced measuring, drilling, sanding, lashing, and assembling while seeing how math, science, engineering, and craftsmanship connect to a real-world challenge.

One of the major highlights has been watching students build confidence with tools, collaborate with their classmates, and see their hard work take shape into canoes they will eventually be able to use on the water
