WHS students recognized by National Merit Scholarship Program & College Board
Two Wyoming High School seniors, Damon Cavitt and Katherine Rutherford, have been named semifinalists in the 70th annual National Merit Scholarship Program. To qualify as a semifinalist, students earned top scores among the more than 1.3 million juniors in about 21,000 high schools who took the 2023 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT). This year’s group of semifinalists represents less than one percent of U.S. high school seniors and includes the highest-scoring entrants in each state.
Senior Alyn Jones was awarded The African American National Recognition Award for her scores on College Board Assessments (PSAT/NMSQT or 2 or more Advanced Placement (AP) tests) and her strong performance in her classes.
Four Wyoming High School seniors have been named Commended Students in the 2025 National Merit Scholarship Program: Jacob Janivicius, William Spera, Cooper Stenken, and Henry Wernicke. Commended students placed among the top 50,000 students who entered the competition by taking the 2023 PSAT/NMSQT) and are recognized for their exceptional academic promise.
"It is such a great accomplishment to be recognized by the College Board and the National Merit Scholarship Program,” said Wyoming High School Principal Michael Voynovich. “The hard work these students put into their studies and extracurricular activities is truly impressive. They are shining examples of the wonderful students we have here at Wyoming High School and we are all very proud of them!”
