Hammers & Horseshoes: January Edition

Hammers & Horseshoes: January Edition

Dear Wyoming Staff and Community,

January marks the start of a new year and the beginning of the second semester, a time of renewed energy, fresh goals, and continued momentum across our district. At the Hilltop Primary construction site, progress continues steadily as we move from planning into visible, on-site transformation. Below are highlights from recent weeks as we continue Building What Matters.

Hilltop Primary School Update:

  • Earthwork Progress - Earthwork at the Hilltop site continues to move ahead steadily, shaping the foundation for the new school and preparing the site for the next phase of construction.
  • Soil Stabilization - Lime is being mixed with onsite soil to dry and stabilize the ground, ensuring the site remains workable throughout winter conditions and providing a strong base for the building.
  • Building Pad Development - Sehlhorst Construction is developing the building pad for the northeast side of the building, now approximately 5-6 feet below final grade, marking the transition toward vertical construction in the months ahead.
  • On-Site Monitoring and Testing - CTL remains on-site daily to monitor soil conditions, oversee lime mixing, and conduct required testing to ensure all work meets engineering and quality standards.
  • Utilities and Temporary Power - Temporary power is now connected at the Hilltop site, allowing expanded on-site operations and more efficient construction activity.
  • Retaining Wall Planning - Additional soil testing is underway to support the final retaining wall design, ensuring long-term site stability and proper grading.
  • Wyoming City Council Public Hearing - The Wyoming City Council will hold a public hearing on January 20, 2026 at 7:00 p.m. at the City Building, 800 Oak Ave., Wyoming, OH 45215 on the Ordinance Approving the Development Plan for the Hilltop Primary School Located at 425 Oliver Road and Amending the Zoning Code.

Elm Primary School Update:

  • We held the third Elm School Design Workshop on Monday, December 8. Community engagement was strong with high levels of participation and thoughtful feedback throughout the evening. Architect Mike Ruetschle reviewed the design process for Elm, outlining the work completed to date and how community input has informed the current proposal. Overall, the response from participants was very positive, and there was clear support to move forward with sharing the current design with the City of Wyoming as part of the permit approval process.

Vermont Primary School Update:

  • The first Vermont Design Workshop was held on Monday, November 10, at Vermont Primary School. We had excellent attendance and strong engagement from staff, parents, community members, and city officials.  The feedback gathered during the session was incredibly valuable and will directly inform the initial design of the new Vermont School. We anticipate scheduling the second workshop for a date in February.
