Friendship United Methodist Church serving as temporary instructional space for Hilltop students and staff

Friendship United Methodist Church has offered a portion of their facility for use as temporary classrooms while construction is underway on Wyoming Primary Schools over the next three years. Increased traffic congestion is anticipated around the church (at the corner of Springfield Pike and Fleming Road) at the start and end of each instructional day.

At arrival and dismissal, all parents who choose to drive their children to and from school will be directed to approach Friendship UMC east-bound on Fleming Road. Fleming Road has been re-striped in this area to provide a third lane with some stacking space for the anticipated congestion.

Only right turns into and out of the Friendship UMC parking lot will be allowed during arrival and dismissal:

  • All parents must turn right from Fleming Road into the western-most entrance of Friendship UMC.
  • When exiting the parking lot onto Springfield Pike, parents will again only turn right.

Arrival time is 8:20-8:35 a.m. and dismissal is 3:20-3:40 p.m. To alleviate anticipated congestion at dismissal, we plan to use an electronic tool called PickUp Patrol to keep traffic moving as swiftly as possible. At dismissal, walkers and bike riders will be dismissed prior to the start of car pickup beginning and bus riders will board the bus after car pickup has completed.

Central Terrace is closed to school traffic at all times.

School families are strongly encouraged to carpool or take advantage of busing. Community members are encouraged to allow additional time in this area during arrival and dismissal times due to anticipated traffic congestion.

We will continue to refine our procedures as opportunities for improvement arise.

Additional Information: Thank you to the Wyoming community for passing the November 2024 bond levy with 69% approval and partnering with our schools to build wonderful learning environments for our youngest learners!

This fall, Wyoming City Schools will break ground on the new Hilltop School. The new school is scheduled to be built over the next 18 months on the site where the current Hilltop School stands. Construction of the new Elm School and new Vermont School on their current sites will follow in the years to come. The construction for each school is anticipated to take 18 months. There will be some overlap of construction schedules at each site and the completion of the entire project is anticipated to take three years.

The design process for Hilltop School will wrap up with Design Workshop #3 at 6:30 p.m. Monday, August 18 at Wyoming Middle School. The design process for Elm School will begin with Design Workshop #4 at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, August 20 at Elm School. The goal is to design each school so that it reflects the identity, values, and needs of the immediately surrounding neighborhood, while aligning with district priorities and exhibiting the unity of the Wyoming Community as a whole. Please consider attending a workshop and being an active partner of the process!
