Info for Teams

How to form a team:

1.  ‚ÄčIdentify a “coach” for the team. The coach may be a classroom teacher who chooses to integrate the activity into his or her curriculum through the year, or the coach may be someone who sponsors a robotics team after school. The coach assists the students in designing the robot and its weapons.  The coach should be an adult and should be capable of managing funds and transportation.
2.  Build a team.  Teams should consist of 3-5 students, and the team should encompass some diversity of skills.  Teams of 8 or more cannot be registered, but more students can be a part of the building process.  Additionally, there should be at least two students per robot that can be present for the competition.
3.  Aquire funds.  Some schools may be willing to provide direct funding to clubs, but you may also need to apply for a grant or connect with an industry sponsor.  If you need help with this, contact us and we may be able to connect your team with an industry sponsor.

What materials do teams need?
1.  Space to meet and build the robot - it helps if this space already has screwdrivers, drills, and other basic tools.
2.  Basic robot electronics and parts: motors, motor speed controllers, receivers, batteries, and transmitters.  Many of these parts, including kits, can be purchased from suppliers like Finger Tech Robotics             Ant Weight Robot Examples
3.  A 3D printer is in no way required for building a combat robot, but if you have access to one at your school, it can be a great low-cost source of frame and structural components.
4.  3D modeling softwares like Fusion 360, Inventor, and SolidWorks are all free for students, and are a great way to design your robot and plan your materials.
