Mental Wellness Supports
Each school provides school counseling services by a licensed school counselor to help students with academic concerns, emotional issues, crisis intervention, conflict resolution, healthy decision-making, bullying and harassment prevention, and substance abuse prevention. If you have concerns about your child's academic, social-emotional and/or mental health, please do not hesitate to contact your school counselor.
In addition, Wyoming City Schools partners with Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center (CCHMC) to provide families access to additional private mental health support services for students. This allows families the choice of accessing a private therapist from a nationally-renowned research hospital right here on the campuses of Wyoming City Schools. It also reduces the time students miss attending class, and eliminates the need for parents and students to travel to these appointments. Therapists are trained to work with a variety of the challenges facing youth, such as anxiety, depression, ADHD, major life changes, and difficulty with social relationships. Sessions are billed to the student's medical insurance, via private pay or Medicare. CCHMC accepts a wide range of insurance providers.
CCHMC Therapists Serving Wyoming Students:
Wyoming High School is supported by CCHMC Therapist Erin Gluff - gluffe@wyomingcityschools.org
Native to Cincinnati, Erin is a proud Buckeye alumni of The Ohio State University where she earned her Bachelors in Social Work and continued on to Case Western Reserve University for her master’s. Erin joined the Cincinnati Children’s team in 2019 and has been serving patients at the Children’s Liberty Campus.
Prior to returning to this area, Erin had the opportunity to work throughout the southern states and overseas in Germany supporting the mental health and medical needs of youth and families in both the hospital and community settings. Witnessing firsthand the mental and behavioral health exacerbation among children has motivated Erin to pursue this direct therapy position, where she can walk alongside adolescents during challenging times, empower them in their own ability to persevere, and collaborate with stakeholders to support the mental health needs of Wyoming High School students.
Wyoming Middle School is supported by CCHMC Therapist Kate Haas - haask@wyomingcityschools.org
Kate has been working as a school-based therapist in Dayton, Ohio since 2019. She has worked with children from kindergarten to 10th grade and has most enjoyed her time with 7th and 8th graders. She has found that middle schoolers have a gift for making jokes and a desire to learn that is unmatched. Kate enjoys the challenges found in working with middle school, as well as looking for new ways to connect and develop healthy skills to last a lifetime.
Kate graduated from Miami University in 2014 with a bachelor's degree in Individualized Studies and received her master's from Wright State University in 2019 in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. Kate currently lives in Dayton with her family. When not enjoying time with family, you can find her reading a book (probably a fantasy), drinking coffee, and eating something delicious. She originally hails from Cincinnati which may explain her desire for ice cream in the winter (Graeter's all the way).
Wyoming Primary Schools are supported by CCHMC Therapist Lauren Johns - johnsl@wyomingcityschools.org
Lauren has over five years of experience in a therapeutic school setting. Along with her mental health background, she has a bachelor’s degree in early education, so the school setting feels like a second home. One of the things that drew her to Wyoming is its small, tight-knit community. She has experience working in both Forest Hills and Felicity and loves the small town feel where she knows neighbors look out for neighbors and a community holds education in the highest regard.
A mother of three small children, Lauren knows all too well that the world our children are growing up in is very different from the ones that we grew up in. It can often be confusing and uncertain, and she sees herself as a resource to help ease some of that anxiety. Lauren believes that a child’s mental health is multifaceted, and factors such as home life, family, friends and school all play a part. As a therapist, Lauren enjoys working with families to ensure that all factors of a student’s life are healthy and safe.
Wyoming City Schools also works with MindPeace, a local organization that helps align the partners, infrastructure and processes for children’s mental health solutions between schools and local agencies. MindPeace works to unite the right teams so kids and their families can get the mental health care they need. MindPeace helped identify Children’s as the most appropriate partner for our school district and continues to work with us to support and enhance the services we provide our students.
To refer your child to a CCHMC therapist, reach out to one of the therapists through the email addresses listed above or contact your child's school counselor or Director of Pupil Services Dr. Tracy Wurtzler.
