Closures & Delays

Calamity days may be called for a number of reasons. Most often, it is due to hazardous road/sidewalk conditions due to inclement weather. However, non-weather events may also be a reason for the district to schedule a calamity day. Some examples include: a water main break, power outage, health-related factors, or excessive illness.  A calamity day may be district-wide or school building-specific depending on the reason.

Wyoming City Schools strives to make announcements regarding any change to school schedules by 5:45 a.m. When inclement weather occurs or is a strong possibility, one of three decisions will be made by school administration: Regular schedule, 2-hour Delay, or Closure. No announcement means "school as usual."

When a 2-hour delay or closure is necessary, an automated phone message and an automated email will be sent to K-12 families and staff members from our SchoolMessenger system. School delay or closing information will also be available on our website: www.wyomingcityschools.org, the district’s Facebook page, and on local radio and television stations.

When a 2-hour delay is necessary, the instructional day will begin as follows:

  • Wyoming High School and Wyoming Middle School will begin at 10 a.m. during a 2-hour delay.
  • Wyoming Primary Schools will begin at 10:30 a.m. during a 2-hour delay and AM Half-Day Kindergarten is canceled.
