Attendance Information
24-Hour Attendance Lines
A phone call or a written note are appropriate ways to communicate an absence. A parent or guardian must contact the attendance line immediately when a child is absent from school. The date(s) of the absence and the reason for the absence must be provided. An automated call will be placed to the student's parent/guardian if a message is not received in advance by the school's attendance office. This contact will alert the parent/guardian to immediately contact the student's school to register their child's absence.
Thank you for your partnership! School attendance is a major component of academic success.
Religious Expression Days
In accordance with Board Policy 5200, Wyoming City School recognizes and respects students' rights to observe religious holidays and participate in faith-based activities. Parents or guardians may request up to three (3) religious expression days per school year for their child to observe religious holidays or participate in organized religious or spiritual activities.
Requesting Religious Expression Days
- A written request must be submitted to the Principal within 14 days of the start of the school year or within 14 days of a student's enrollment.
- The request should specify the religious expression day(s) to be excused.
- The Principal will approve the days without questioning the sincerity of the student's religious or spiritual beliefs but may verify the authenticity of the request by contacting the parent or guardian.
Academic Accommodations & Participation
- Students will not face academic penalties for excused religious expression days.
- Teachers will provide alternative arrangements for any missed exams or assignments.
- Students may participate in extracurricular activities, including athletics, on approved religious expression days.
If a student, parent, or guardian believes this policy has not been properly implemented, they may submit a written grievance to the Superintendent. The Superintendent will review the grievance and issue a final written determination.
Pursuant to Ohio Revised Code 3320.04, which becomes effective on Oct. 24, 2024, the Department of Education and Workforce compiled this non-exhaustive list of major religious holidays. In Wyoming City Schools, each year there is no school for students on some number of these holidays due to overlapping Wyoming City Schools Board Holidays or professional development days for staff. For any questions or to submit a request, please contact your child’s Principal.
