Educational Option Day -Wednesday, October 13th
Wednesday, October 13th, each grade level will be participating in a different educational option. For many of our students, this is the day they will take the PSAT to assess their current level of college readiness. Other students will have the option of engaging in an activity that will provide them with further insight about themselves and/or their chosen career path. Please see the information below for a brief description of each grade level’s activity for the day.
9th graders will not report to school on this day. Instead they will complete a series of career exploration activities through YouScience. YouScience is a tool that gives students the insight, tools, and vocabulary needed to articulate their interests, aptitudes, and career goals. Through a series of fun, engaging “brain games”, YouScience gives students hope, relevance, and direction by expanding their vision of opportunity! YouScience is a great way for students to translate their talent into careers that are a good fit for them and gain a better understanding of how their unique talents are needed in today’s economy.
All 10th graders will be participating in the PSAT administration. The PSAT is a national college readiness exam that will help students understand their current level of college readiness. This is only a practice test and will provide students with some exposure to an actual college readiness exam. A light breakfast will be provided at 7:50 a.m. and testing will immediately follow. Students will be dismissed at the conclusion of testing.
11th graders will have the option of participating in the PSAT or engaging in an off-campus education option. The PSAT is a national test and is only offered on this date. There is no makeup test. Through their participation on the PSAT, students will have an opportunity to qualify for the National Merit Scholarship Competition. Students choosing NOT to take the PSAT will be responsible for finding their own ed-option experience (college visit, job shadow, volunteering etc.) Transportation will not be provided.
