The music program at Wyoming City Schools provides an outlet for self-expression, problem solving, critical thinking, innovation and creativity. Through music, students are able to experience learning visually, kinesthetically and aurally. We provide the opportunity to develop mutual respect, cooperative behavior, and friendships. Participation in Wyoming’s music programs helps develop keener listening skills and concentration.
Beginning in kindergarten, all Wyoming students receive instruction from a qualified music educator. Music classes are part of the regular primary school schedule, and follow a standards-based curriculum. Wyoming prides itself in offering instrumental/choral music options in the fourth grade. Students are given an opportunity to sing in choir or to play stringed instruments (violin/viola/cello/bass) or wind instruments (flute/clarinet/trumpet/trombone). Middle School students have performance music study three days a week, with options in band, choir, general music and orchestra. The high school offers band, two orchestras, and choir that meet during the day. Students have the opportunity to participate in extracurricular school programs, such as GLEE, Jazz Band, Marching Band, Fiddlin’ Cowboys, Rodeo Orchestra, Cello Choir, Pulse, Percussion Ensembles, Musical plays and other various musical ensembles.
Our musicians experience professional concerts, both outside the classroom and within. The Wyoming Foundation, Wyoming School Music Association and professional volunteers aid us in bringing enrichment activities and performances to our youth. Music is used in every facet of our lives: assemblies, ceremonies, award activities, sporting events, celebrations, community losses and as an enhancement of meaningful experiences.
Our students travel on performance group trips to places, such as Cedar Point, Disney World, and most recently, New Orleans and New York City. Music brings beauty into the daily existence of our students and empowers creativity that lies within all children and inspires a love of learning.
