The movie theater industry is undergoing a massive upheaval. More accurately, it is being replaced. This is not breaking news by any means, as the value of a cinema ticket has gone down in the past ten years due to streaming services having broader options, including productions by their own distribution. But the pandemic certainly has not made things any better. Directors and producers were banking on the virus blowing over in a few weeks. But Christopher Nolan learned the hard way that postponing a film by a month multiple times does not guarantee long-term anticipation for said film. Warner Bros has announced that they are sending their early 2021 slate to both limited release in theaters as well as HBO Max, an unprecedented move for a company of their size.
